Choosing the Right Carpet Gripper
Selecting the right carpet gripper depends on the type of flooring. At Holocombe Flooring, we offer a range of stick-down and nail-down gripper rods for various surfaces. For instance, Stick-down grippers are ideal for floors where nails can’t be used, such as those with underlying pipes. Pre-nailed options are designed for wood and concrete floors, with dual-purpose grippers fitting the most common surfaces.
How to Install Carpet Grippers
- Prepare and Measure: To begin with, start by measuring your room’s perimeter to determine how many grippers you’ll need. The gap between the gripper and skirting board should match the carpet thickness, around 10mm.
- Position and Fasten: Next, lay the grippers with the angled nails facing the wall. Cut them to size using a hacksaw as needed. For nail-down grippers, hammer them into place. For stick-down grippers, apply adhesive and let it dry.
- Concrete Floors: However, if installing on concrete, use dowel rods as plugs for the gripper nails. Drill holes in the concrete and insert dowel rods before hammering the nails in.
How to Remove Carpet Grippers
Additionally, removing carpet grippers can be tricky, so always wear safety gear, like goggles and gloves, to avoid injury from the sharp pins. Furthermore, use a chisel to lift the gripper rods, working from one end of the room, and carefully loosen the nails or adhesive. When installing new carpet, always use fresh gripper rods to ensure a secure fit, as old rods may be damaged or weakened.
